Ginger is a wonder herb that can fight the phlegm accumulation in your lungs, commonly referred to as Chest Congestion. It is a root herb that has been touted as good for our lungs. The Coronavirus pandemic has caused considerable panic among humanity. So as fellow humans it is our collective responsibility to fight the pandemic by preparing our body and making it more immune to the infection. The idea once again here is not a cure to CoVID-19 but to make our body respond better and the fight should the coronavirus infect us.

Even today, we prepare this concoction at our home whenever we are down with cold or cough with phlegm in the lungs. I read the content to a well-qualified Siddha Medical Professional and got a go-ahead before posting this. Let us dive into the process of making this ginger concoction, called Inji Kashaayam in Tamil.

Preparing Ginger Concoction / Inji Kashaayam

Items Needed

Ginger (for one person) – approximately the size of your index finger – Can range between 15-20 gms

Clean white cloth to strain

Preparation

Peel the skin of the ginger completely. Slice them and put them in a blender. Pour 25 ml water and grind the ginger into a paste. Once done, pour this mixture into the cloth and strain thoroughly. You can squeeze the cloth to extract the watery ginger concoction. Now heat this extract and bring it to a boil. That is it. Remove the extract from the heat and bring it to room temperature. Do not refrigerate. Once done, you can have this ginger concoction.

Important Notes on Inji Kashaayam

The ginger concoction should always be had only in the early morning when your stomach is empty. It should not be had in the evening times.

The concoction will be hot as chili and be prepared for it.

You can add a teaspoon of honey (this is optional) if you think it is very hot.

After having the concoction, take your breakfast or morning coffee or anything else after 30 minutes.

If you are having gastritis or any digestive problems, it is better to take the extract with honey. You also do not need to wait for 30 minutes. You can have your breakfast after 15 minutes.

Take this extract for 48 days continuously every morning. In Siddha Medicine type, any medicine should be taken for 48 days non-stop to accrue the best benefits. After 48 days of taking the concoction, you can stop it. The 48 days time period is referred to as “Mandalam” in Siddha Medicine.
